Reception for Book

A panel discussion and reception for a new book edited by Jorge Balán is scheduled for Wednesday, February 13, in New York City.

The book is Latin America’s New Knowledge Economy: Higher Education, Government, and International Collaboration and is published by the Institute of International Education as part of its series on Global Education Research Reports.

The book examines the “policies, institutions, and programs” that helped bring about “impressive growth and change for higher education in Latin America” over the last few decades. Leading scholars of the region discuss such key issues as higher education’s role in advanced workforce development and investment in the region by United States universities and corporations.

The event will be held from 4 to 6 at the institute’s headquarters at 809 United Nations Plaza, on First Avenue between 45th and 46th streets.

Balán served two tours at the Foundation in its Rio de Janeiro office and in New York City, from 1971 to 1973 and from 1998 to 2006.
